Generac recently released a Service Information Bulletin regarding all generators with Turbocharged 2.4L Engines.
It has been determined that when these units are only operated under no-load conditions over extended periods of time such as during normal weekly exercising, condensation can build up inside of the engine and reduce the effectiveness of the oil. It will show up as a tan to milky color residue inside the oil fill cap, as well as in other parts of the engine (valve cover, breather hoses, etc.). This condensation is not detrimental to the engine if it is identified and properly managed (kept to a minimum).
It is recommended to periodically run the generator under load to prevent the condensation build-up. We have identified three options to address this issue:
1. Perform a monthly/quarterly power failure simulation so that the engine burns off the excess moisture. Our technicians can instruct you on how to perform this during your next scheduled visit if you would like. If you do not have a Scheduled Maintenance Agreement, standard labor rates and trip charges will apply.
2. Increase your Schedule Maintenance Agreement to our Gold package which includes [4] scheduled visits and we will run the generator under load for you.
3. Install a custom exercise timer designed by Assurance Power Systems that will shut-off the utility sensing wires to the generator and cause the generator to run under load instead of not under load. This option can be purchased for $550.
